The Israeli military conducted airstrikes on Iran’s embassy in Syria, resulting in the deaths of seven Iranian military advisers, including three senior commanders.
The strike, which took place in the Mezzeh district of Damascus, marked a significant escalation in Israel’s conflict with its regional adversaries.
Witnesses reported seeing emergency workers sifting through rubble within the diplomatic compound, while Iranian flags hung nearby.
Syrian officials, including Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, condemned the attack as a “terrorist” act and expressed solidarity with Iran.
The Iranian ambassador confirmed that the strike targeted a consular building within the embassy compound, with his residence located on the top two floors.
Israel has previously targeted Iranian military installations and proxies in Syria but had not directly struck the embassy compound until now.
The escalation comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran-backed groups, including Hamas, which initiated a recent conflict in Gaza.
Israel’s military spokesperson declined to comment on the strike when approached by reporters.
