Egypt will host a conference next month to unite Sudan’s civilian political groups with various regional and global stakeholders, the Egyptian foreign ministry announced on Tuesday.
The conference aims to facilitate an agreement among Sudan’s civilian groups to establish comprehensive and lasting peace, according to the statement.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a civil war between the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
The conflict has resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians.
Despite efforts by key global and regional actors, including the United States, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, to broker peace, no successful resolution has been achieved.
