Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has decided to end Youssif Ibrahim Ezzat’s role as his political advisor, effective July 10.
According to an RSF spokesperson’s statement, Dagalo instructed relevant authorities to implement this decision as part of routine internal reorganizations.
The move follows Ezzat’s recent comments criticizing the exclusion of the Islamic Movement from a political conference in Cairo, which he deemed unjustified.
Having served as Dagalo’s political advisor since 2021, Ezzat also assumed a prominent role as spokesperson for the RSF during clashes with General al-Burhan’s forces in April 2023.
Earlier this year, the RSF held a workshop in Uganda to restructure its civilian and political operations, resulting in Abdel Rahim Dagalo assuming leadership of the RSF’s Civilian Coordination Council.
Following his dismissal, Ezzat clarified that he had voluntarily requested to step down due to internal restructuring transferring his responsibilities to Abdel Rahim Dagalo.
Ezzat’s background includes involvement in armed movements in Darfur against the Bashir regime, co-founding the United Revolutionary Force Front, and participating in peace talks.
He resides in Canada as a citizen after his student activism at Neelain University in Khartoum.
