Sudanese General al-Burhan’s military (SAF) is set to inform the United States about its decision on participating in proposed talks with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Switzerland, according to SAF sources on Sunday.
The decision will be conveyed during a meeting in Port Sudan with U.S. envoy Tom Perriello, who is expected to arrive in the city next month, the sources added.
Perriello confirmed on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that he had held consultations in Djibouti with international and regional parties to address the conflict in Sudan.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has invited the SAF and the RSF to Switzerland for talks starting on August 14, under the auspices of the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.
Al-Burhan’s military has blocked or flat out refused to participate in other peace efforts in the past.
As of now, the army has not yet decided on participating in the talks, a military source said.
