Burkina Faso seeks public help against militants

Burkina Faso’s junta is urging citizens to report any suspicious activity or individuals to bolster national security amid a persistent insurgency.

The call for vigilance comes as the country battles ongoing violence from extremist groups.

The Ministry of Security emphasized the need for heightened alertness from the populace.

It advised citizens to report unusual individuals, movements, or objects to prevent potential threats, as stated in a recent announcement.

Citizens are cautioned against parking near sensitive sites for extended periods and taking photos of crucial installations.

They are also advised not to share information about security forces’ positions or strategic routes that could aid terrorists.

Furthermore, the junta warns against renting out cars or properties without thorough checks on potential lessees.

These measures are part of the broader effort to combat the militant threat in the Sahel region.

Burkina Faso’s military, which came to power in a 2022 coup, faces criticism from human rights organizations.

Amnesty International and HRW accuse the junta of rights abuses, including the kidnapping of critics, amid the ongoing regional insurgency.
