The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced a significant victory on Friday, declaring that they had successfully overpowered General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF), allied militias, and mercenary groups tied to the Islamic Movement in the Um Al-Qura area of Gezira State.
In a statement, the RSF detailed the capture of 40 combat vehicles, a tank, and large quantities of ammunition during the operation, while also claiming the destruction of two additional tanks.
The group reported neutralizing over 270 enemy fighters, describing the action as a pivotal blow to the SAF’s operational strength in the region.
The RSF framed the operation as part of a broader campaign to dismantle what they termed the “terrorist Islamic Movement” and its remnants from the former regime. They emphasized that this victory represents more than a tactical gain, calling it a critical milestone in their push to “liberate Sudan” and establish a democratic and inclusive future.
“The RSF remains steadfast in its commitment to ending oppression and terror,” the statement read. “This operation underscores our determination to eradicate the remnants of the former regime and lay the groundwork for a Sudan built on justice, equality, and peace.”
The situation in Sudan remains fluid, with ongoing conflict between the RSF and SAF continuing to devastate the nation.
Both sides have been accused of significant human rights violations, raising concerns about the long-term prospects for stability and reconciliation.
