SAF-linked Muslim Brotherhood militias targeting civilians in Sennar

The Central Human Rights Observatory – Sudan has documented criminal practices by militias supporting General al-Burhan’s (SAF) in Sennar State, including actions attributed to the Muslim Brotherhood brigades.

In a statement, the observatory expressed deep concern over consistent reports of deteriorating human rights conditions in the recently reclaimed region. It highlighted grave violations against civilians, including widespread campaigns of extrajudicial killings and physical elimination of individuals suspected of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Reports also indicate cases of torture and arbitrary detention targeting civilians.

The observatory stressed that such ongoing violations pose a severe threat to fundamental rights and the security of citizens.

The organization called on the SAF to hold its members accountable for these abuses and to uphold the dignity and safety of civilians. It also urged the international and regional community to take measures to protect civilians and prevent the recurrence of such violations.

The Muslim Brotherhood militias, notably the Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigade, are reportedly fighting alongside the SAF on various fronts in Sudan. These groups have also been implicated in covert operations targeting protesters, political dissidents, journalists, and activists.
