SAF drone strike kills 15 civilians in attack on dairy transport vehicle

A Sudanese military drone strike has killed 15 civilians and injured six others in the latest incident highlighting the dangers faced by civilians amid the ongoing conflict.

Lawyers reported on Monday that the attack occurred on Saturday on the Omdurman-Bara road, which links Khartoum to North Kordofan states.

The road had been closed by the government in April due to ongoing clashes between General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The SAF had declared that any movement on the road would be considered a military target.

The dairy transport vehicle, carrying milk from local villages to the Al-Muweilih market, broke down on the closed highway and was subsequently targeted by a military drone. Despite its civilian nature, the vehicle was struck, resulting in 15 deaths and six injuries. Two people remain missing, according to the Emergency Lawyers group.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were herders and dairy workers, suggesting the attack was a direct strike on civilians. This incident underscores the deepening humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where millions have been displaced and food shortages are widespread.
