Nigerian military jet mistakenly bombs civilians, killing at least 10

At least 10 people were killed and several others injured when a Nigerian military jet targeting bandits mistakenly bombed civilians in Sokoto State, northwestern Nigeria, on Wednesday, according to Governor Ahmed Aliyu.

In a statement, Aliyu explained that the airstrike was part of an operation against criminal groups terrorizing the area. “Unfortunately, the military jets mistakenly bombed innocent members of this community,” he said.

The incident occurred in the villages of Gidan Sama and Rintuwa, located in the Surame local government area. Aliyu pledged that the state government would work with relevant authorities to investigate the tragic error.

The Nigerian military confirmed late Wednesday that it had targeted locations near Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa associated with the Lakurawa group. However, it did not provide details about the civilian casualties.
