The Sultanate of Darfur has accused General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) of bombing the historic Sultanate Museum in El Fasher, resulting in the partial destruction of the historic building.
According to a statement from the Sultanate, the bombing also targeted the Sultan Ali Dinar Palace in the city.
The museum, which is under the protection of UNICEF, houses valuable artifacts and the history of the Darfur Sultanate, including irreplaceable items associated with the region’s rulers.
In a statement, the Sultanate expressed outrage over the SAF attack, describing it as an unprecedented attack on an important historical site.
The museum, which holds artifacts listed by UNESCO, was severely damaged by the SAF airstrike, and heavy artillery fire reportedly targeted civilian structures and protected historical sites.
The Sultanate has called on the international community to intervene and halt what it described as “barbaric attacks,” demanding accountability for Sudanese military leaders, including General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, for their actions that violate human rights.
The statement further condemned the ongoing violence targeting innocent civilians in Darfur, particularly in displacement camps such as Zamzam, Nafasha, Abu Juba, and Fata Brno, as well as in El Fasher’s residential areas and medical facilities.
The Sultanate urged for urgent international pressure on SAF to cease indiscriminate bombings and hold accountable those responsible for these war crimes.
