Local sources say Niyazi Saleh was found dead after being held incommunicado by General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and an associated “security cell” that swept through Wad Madani in recent days.
Saleh was picked up without charge and denied family visits, residents told Al-Rakoba. On Saturday relatives were handed his body with no explanation from authorities. They accuse security forces of “deliberate killing through torture or neglect” and demand an independent investigation.
Rights groups report a pattern of abuses—including arbitrary arrests and beatings—in areas the SAF has recaptured. “The lack of transparency or accountability is fuelling grave concerns for human-rights protections at this critical moment,” a local activist said.
Saleh’s family and human-rights organisations are urging a swift, transparent inquiry and prosecution of those responsible, calling the death a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
