The United Arab Emirates on Thursday dismissed General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army (SAF) claims of destroying an Emirati plane carrying Colombian mercenaries to support RSF.
Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal conflict between Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023, with the Port Sudan-based SAF junta accusing Abu Dhabi of aiding its rivals — allegations the UAE firmly denies.
On Wednesday, Burhan’s army-controlled state TV reported that air force jets struck the aircraft as it landed at Nyala airport, an RSF-controlled hub in Darfur. The attack allegedly killed 40 Colombian fighters and destroyed the plane.
A UAE official told AFP the accusations were “entirely false” and lacked any evidence, describing them as part of Burhan’s “campaign of disinformation and deflection.”-
The fighting for Darfur reflects the wider chaos consuming Sudan, where diplomacy falters and battlefield claims often blur the truth.
