RSF investigates El Fasher execution video

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said Sunday it has opened an investigation to determine whether a gunman seen in a viral video executing an unarmed man in El Fasher, North Darfur, belongs to its ranks, pledging immediate disciplinary action if confirmed.

The footage shows an armed man questioning a civilian for a few seconds — including about the 6th Infantry Division commander’s whereabouts and the victim’s tribal affiliation — before firing several shots at close range with a handgun.

In a statement, an RSF spokesperson said the clip depicts “an individual firing randomly at an unarmed person in civilian clothing.” The RSF said it has formed a committee “to verify whether the assailant is part of our forces,” adding that if affiliation is established, the perpetrator “will be held to account immediately for violating force regulations and leadership directives to comply with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions in the treatment of prisoners of war.”

The statement condemned the act and said the RSF rejects any behavior that contravenes military and ethical values.
