Sudan’s Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) said it rejects military decisions announced by SAF chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Sunday, calling the overhaul of the general staff and dismissals of unit commanders a setback to a political settlement.
The steps “depart from the path of a negotiated solution” and ignore balances agreed among Sudanese parties, JEM said in a statement, adding that bypassing civilian forces and signatories to the Juba Peace Agreement risked reproducing the crisis.
JEM warned the moves could deepen polarisation, erode trust among factions and complicate efforts to secure a ceasefire, urging a return to inclusive dialogue that involves all parties without exclusion.
There was no immediate comment from the SAF.
War between General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023 has devastated Khartoum and parts of Darfur and Kordofan, killed thousands and displaced millions.
