TASIS PM outlines legal overhaul and services push in Nyala

Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’aishi, the newly sworn-in prime minister of the Peace and Unity Government formed by the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), sketched the executive program at a mass rally in South Darfur’s capital on Monday.

Speaking to thousands gathered in Martyr al-Sahini Square, al-Ta’aishi said the government’s immediate priorities are “security and safeguarding the dignity of all Sudanese,” adding that the cabinet has drafted the policies needed to deliver on both.

He said work is underway on new legislation for the police, security services and the public prosecutor’s office, anchored in the 2025 Transitional Constitution. The government’s mandate, he added, is derived from the TASIS political charter.

Al-Ta’aishi pledged improvements in basic services, naming health and education, and promised stricter revenue governance, protection of community resources and “full equality” in their redistribution under a clear, rules-based system. He also announced plans for a counter-terrorism law, alongside a broad anti-corruption drive targeting financial, economic and social abuses, and measures to curb hate speech.

Deputy Presidential Council chair Abdelaziz al-Hilu and council members including al-Hadi Idris stood alongside the prime minister on the main platform during the address.

Residents told media the march coincided with the closure of shops in central and neighborhood markets and the temporary shuttering of Starlink outlets amid a heavy security presence at the city’s entrances and exits.

The TASIS coalition—bringing together the Rapid Support Forces, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, the Sudan Liberation Movement–Transitional Council, the Gathering of Sudan Liberation Forces, and allied political and community actors—emerged after signatories adopted a political charter and a transitional constitution, leading to the formation of the new government.
