The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate called on Port Sudan’s SAF junta to rescind the suspension of Lina Yaqoub, bureau chief for Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, after the Ministry of Culture and Information withdrew her press accreditation on Friday, citing “national security” and the “public interest.”
In a statement shared with Darfur24, the syndicate condemned the move as a serious blow to press freedom and the public’s right to know, warning that vague justifications for restricting independent reporting violate international standards. It said the decision coincided with a coordinated online campaign targeting Yaqoub, raising questions about the authorities’ motives.
The syndicate urged the government to ensure journalists’ safety, end incitement, and respect professional rights. Since the war began, it has recorded at least 31 journalists killed, more than 230 detained, and over 550 violations, including harassment, persecution and threats.
