TASIS accuses Egypt of ‘dangerous interference’ in Sudan war

Sudan’s TASIS government backed by the Rapid Support Forces on Saturday accused Egypt of dangerous interference in the country’s war, after the Port Sudan-based foreign minister said Cairo fully supported the SAF-aligned administration.

In a statement, the TASIS government’s foreign ministry said Egyptian backing “undermines all efforts to end the war and begin an inclusive political process,” urging the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Britain, the United Nations, the African Union and IGAD to respond.

“The silence or indifference of the world only encourages continuation of the war,” the statement said, appealing to Egypt to support peace initiatives instead of “backing the Islamist authorities in Port Sudan.”

General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) has set up a military junta in Port Sudan on the Red Sea, while the RSF has announced a rival authority in Nyala, South Darfur. Fighting between the two sides has left tens of thousands dead and created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
