Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) condemned General al-Burhan’s Forces (SAF) on Thursday of bombing a relief convoy traveling from Zalingei to El Fasher, North Darfur, saying a drone struck the vehicles, killing dozens and wounding civilians.

In a statement, the RSF said the “systematic targeting” of aid convoys amounts to a war crime and said the SAF is acting under the influence of Islamist groups. The group linked the incident to what it described as a pattern of attacks on humanitarian operations in June and August, and noted the strike coincided with a visit to Darfur by U.N. Under-Secretary-General Tom Fletcher.

The RSF called on the international community and rights and aid organizations to condemn the attack, open an urgent and transparent investigation, and apply pressure on the SAF to halt operations against humanitarian workers.

“The silence of the international community … encourages the perpetrators to continue killing innocent civilians and threatens humanitarian efforts,” the statement said.
