UK and Egypt discuss humanitarian relief in Sudan

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held a call Tuesday. They discussed the “appalling suffering” in Sudan and stressed the urgent need for international co-operation to protect civilians and restore stability.

Starmer underlined the United Kingdom’s readiness to support a transition to a civilian-led government amid ongoing political turmoil.

The conflict between the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support Forces, which began in April 2023, has killed at least 40,000 people and displaced 12 million.

Both leaders emphasised the urgent need to end hostilities and provide humanitarian assistance to civilians caught in the crossfire of violence.

International agencies warn that without increased aid and political solutions, the suffering in Sudan could escalate, leaving millions more vulnerable.
