Burhan presents peace to US, declares war back in Sudan

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has made clear he does not seek peace, hardening his military stance even as the United States intensifies diplomatic efforts to revive the country’s shattered political process and calm with the rivalry with Rapid Support Forces despite international calls.

Burhan delivered his message during a visit to Al-Qutaynah in White Nile State, where he reaffirmed his commitment to continued military attacks against RSF, despite pledging peace in Sudan in his meeting with US officials.

His declaration further weakens already-remote prospects for de-escalation and leaves civilians facing a worsening humanitarian crisis as violence expands and aid access erodes.

The entrenched military position comes at a moment when Washington is urging Burhan’s army and RSF to halt hostilities and open space for renewed negotiations.

US Special Envoy to Sudan Massad Boulos said an immediate humanitarian truce was not simply an option but a moral obligation that must not be delayed.

He stressed that a pause in fighting was essential to stem civilian suffering and prevent the collapse of remaining relief corridors.

Boulos also ruled out any future role for the Muslim Brotherhood or Iran in shaping Sudan’s political landscape, warning that their involvement would deepen the conflict and aggravate regional tensions.

His remarks underscored Washington’s attempt to steer Sudan away from external interference while pressing the warring parties to take steps toward restraint.
