President Donald Trump received the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize on Friday during the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington.
FIFA said the new award recognises individuals whose actions have advanced peace and brought people together across borders.
Trump called the honour one of the greatest of his life after recently being passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino presented Trump with a gold trophy, a medal and a certificate as the audience looked on.
Infantino told Trump the prize was intended to acknowledge efforts that, in FIFA’s view, fostered dialogue and eased conflict.
A video played by FIFA highlighted Trump’s support for ceasefire negotiations and diplomatic talks during his presidency.
The presentation credited Trump with helping create conditions for peace in conflicts stretching from the Middle East to Central Africa.
It also cited the Abraham Accords as a breakthrough and claimed his leadership supported stability between several long-standing rivals.
FIFA further asserted that Trump’s actions underpinned peace efforts from Gaza to the Russia-Ukraine war, describing a presidency committed to global calm.
Trump said he had ended wars that saved millions of lives during his second term in office.
He added that the world was safer now and said the United States had regained strength after a difficult period.
The 48-team World Cup will open in June across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The final is scheduled for 19 July in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
