Sudan’s Al Fadil says Burhan is held hostage by Muslim Brotherhood

Sudan’s Umma Party leader Mubarak Al-Fadil Al-Mahdi has warned that Army Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan is “being held hostage” by his political allies. Al-Fadil pointed to Burhan’s setbacks in Greater Kordofan, where Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have already captured Al-Fashir, Babanusa, Heglig, and Bara.

Kadugli and Dilling remain under siege, while Al-Ubayyid, Umm Ruwaba, and Al-Rahad are also at risk. In a post on the social media platform X on Monday, Al-Fadil accused former official Ali Karti and the Muslim Brotherhood of plotting a violent return to power. He urged Burhan to reassure Saudi leaders of his commitment to ending the conflict and to immediately endorse the US-backed peace plan.
