The Rapid Support Forces’ adviser, Pasha Tabik, has criticised African Union envoy Mohamed Belaiche over remarks, calling them “unfortunate” and inconsistent with the neutrality expected of his diplomatic role.
In a Facebook post, Tabik said Belaiche should treat all parties equally and avoid biased assessments during mediation.
He added that the envoy’s focus on alleged violations by the Rapid Support Forces, while overlooking abuses by Burhan’s army, is “unacceptable” and raises concerns.
The comments come amid escalating political and human rights tensions in Sudan, where the African Union’s mediation efforts are under growing scrutiny.
Analysts say maintaining neutrality is crucial for the AU’s credibility in the country’s fragile peace process.
Tabik’s statement highlights the heightened sensitivity surrounding international engagement and the perception of bias in ongoing negotiations.
