The Arab League welcomed Sudan’s comprehensive peace initiative presented to the UN Security Council.
Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit praised the plan for reflecting a genuine desire to end the war and ease human suffering.
Spokesperson Jamal Rushdi highlighted the initiative’s political, humanitarian, and security dimensions, calling it a serious framework for constructive engagement.
The League supports the call for a nationwide ceasefire, civilian protection, humanitarian aid, and assistance for displaced persons and refugees.
It also backs disarmament and reintegration programs to rebuild trust and restore the social fabric of a unified Sudanese state.
The initiative’s proposals on confidence-building, transitional justice, and national reconciliation were praised as essential for sustainable peace and preventing societal fragmentation.
Arab League officials stressed national ownership of the political process, urging Sudanese dialogue to achieve consensus on governance during the transitional period.
The plan aims for free and fair elections under international supervision, fulfilling Sudanese aspirations for democracy and long-term stability.
