US welcomes first aid shipments to El Fasher

The United States welcomed the first aid shipments to El Fasher, North Darfur, after an 18-month siege.

The deliveries included over 1.3 metric tons of food, water purification equipment, and essential health supplies, officials said.

Massad Boulos, senior US advisor on African and Arab affairs, said months of negotiations enabled the aid entry.

The effort involved coordination with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and international partners.

Boulos stressed the importance of unhindered aid flow to El Fasher and other affected areas in Sudan.

He called on warring parties to agree to a humanitarian truce and ensure unconditional delivery of aid.

The US official urged the international community to increase support for humanitarian partners addressing famine and displacement.
