Sudan’s Al-Qadarif state steps up border oversight near Ethiopia

Sudan’s Al-Qadarif State has announced a new plan to tighten security and administrative control along the Al-Qallabat border with Ethiopia.

The decision was unveiled during an expanded Consumer Affairs Council meeting chaired by Governor Muhammad Ahmad Hassan in Al-Qadarif city.

Officials warned that smuggled and substandard goods threaten public health and the local economy.

The state approved urgent measures to strengthen oversight of exports and imports, including upgrading border laboratories and deploying qualified technical personnel.

Governor Hassan said the steps aim to protect citizens from smugglers, calling consumer security part of Sudan’s broader battle for dignity and stability.
