US urges citizens to leave 15 Middle East countries

The United States has issued an urgent directive urging its citizens to leave Egypt and 14 other countries across the Middle East, citing escalating regional security risks amid ongoing US-Israeli military operations against Iran.

The advisory, released by the US State Department on Monday, March 2, 2026, comes as tensions surge following American and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and subsequent security threats across the region.

The countries included in the advisory are Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, as well as Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Maura Namdar said the measure is precautionary and aimed at protecting American citizens from potential retaliatory attacks or broader regional instability.

She added that some US diplomatic missions have taken temporary measures, including the evacuation of non-essential personnel. The US Embassy in Jordan was among those that carried out partial staff reductions due to direct security threats.

The State Department advised American nationals in the region to monitor official updates and make immediate travel arrangements where possible.
