Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander and head of the Presidential Council, Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, welcomed a decision by the United States to designate the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a global terrorist organization.
In a statement issued on Monday, Dagalo said he welcomed the decision by the US State Department to classify the Sudanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist entity.
Dagalo described the move as a victory for the Sudanese people and their aspirations for peace, stability, democracy and sustainable development.
“The decision to designate the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a terrorist organization represents a victory for the will of the Sudanese people and their hopes for peace, stability, democracy and sustainable development,” the statement said.
He added that the designation marks an important step toward cutting off the sources of extremism and terrorism and ending activities that have destabilized Sudan and weakened its state institutions.
According to Dagalo, the decision also confirms that the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan represents a serious threat to international peace and security.
Dagalo said placing the group on terrorism lists acknowledges what he described as serious violations and crimes committed by the movement and its affiliated networks against civilians across Sudan over several decades.
He also accused the Islamist movement of playing a role in igniting the war that erupted on April 15 and alleged that internationally banned weapons, including chemical agents and barrel bombs, had been used against civilians during the conflict.
Dagalo said isolating ideological movements that use violence to gain power is essential for rebuilding Sudan on new and just foundations and establishing a state based on the rule of law and equal citizenship.
He added that the decision supports the approach taken by the “Peace Government,” which previously enacted anti-terror legislation banning the Islamic Movement in Sudan on the grounds that it threatens national and international security.
The statement concluded by emphasizing the importance of coordination with the international community to pursue the financial and organizational networks linked to the group and prevent the use of international platforms to destabilize Sudan and the wider region.
