The Rapid Support Forces released 260 civilian detainees from a prison west of Nyala in South Darfur state, the groups said in a statement.
The release followed written guarantees provided by local community leaders for those detained, according to sources.
One released detainee said prison authorities plan to release around 1,500 detainees in stages during this month.
