MSF: Drone strike in western Sudan kills 11 and injures dozens more

A drone strike in western Sudan set fuel reserves ablaze, killing 11 people and leaving dozens more seriously injured.

French medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said it treated over 20 victims, including seven children, at hospitals it supports in neighbouring Chad.

The attack targeted Adikong market near Sudan’s border with Chad, marking the second deadly drone strike in the area in under a month.

MSF confirmed that at least 11 people were burned to death, while 23 others were injured and needed urgent medical care.

United Nations High Commissioner Volker Turk reported that more than 200 civilians have been killed in drone attacks across Sudan since March 4.

The strikes have also damaged or destroyed homes, schools, markets, and health facilities, deepening the humanitarian crisis.

Drones have become a key weapon in Sudan’s conflict between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023.

Humanitarian groups warn that repeated drone attacks are devastating civilian life and straining already limited medical resources.

MSF urged immediate measures to protect civilians and allow medical teams safe access to treat the injured and rescue those trapped after attacks.
