The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), working alongside local residents, have arrested three suspects accused of involvement in the killing of livestock traders in East Darfur’s Abu Jabra area, local sources said.
A local administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the suspects were intercepted by residents and RSF personnel while traveling on a motorcycle and found carrying belongings stolen from the victims.
The arrests follow a deadly armed robbery on Sunday in which three livestock traders were killed and two others wounded south of Abu Jabra locality as they returned from a market. The assailants reportedly made off with approximately 800 million Sudanese pounds in cash.
The incident has heightened security concerns in the area, where attacks targeting traders and transport routes have increased amid ongoing instability linked to the wider Sudan conflict.
In response, East Darfur’s Security Committee convened with representatives of the Native Administration on Wednesday to review the situation in Abu Jabra and extend condolences to the victims’ families, according to local officials.
