A drone strike on Al Daein Teaching Hospital in Sudan’s Darfur region has killed 70 people and left more than 2 million without proper medical care, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.
Emergency, maternity, and pediatric wards were destroyed, forcing patients to travel up to 160 kilometres for treatment.
The attack wounded 146 people, including patients and family members, and prompted aid groups to move services to a local clinic.
The hospital was a key referral centre for Al Daein city and nine surrounding districts in East Darfur.
The strike highlights the escalating human cost in a conflict that has killed over 40,000 and repeatedly targeted medical facilities, with 213 attacks reported since fighting began.
UN officials warned of the deadly impact of drones and other high-tech weapons on civilians in Sudan.
