Forces affiliated with the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), including the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the SPLM-N led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, have surrounded an Egyptian army unit in Blue Nile state near the Ethiopian border, field sources said.
The unit, reportedly stationed in the Sali area, consists of around 640 soldiers and officers, according to the sources.
They said officers within the Egyptian unit attempted to negotiate safe passage out of Sali toward Damazin, the state capital. However, TASIS forces rejected the proposal and demanded immediate surrender.
The Egyptian contingent had been operating in support of General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) before its presence in the area shifted toward gold-related activities, the sources added.
Information obtained by the sources suggests that SAF had allowed the Egyptian unit to be stationed near the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, within Sudanese territory close to the border.
