The Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) has presented a proposal aimed at ending Sudan’s war and addressing its root causes during talks with UN envoy Pekka Haavisto in Nairobi.
Haavisto, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, met an SLM delegation led by Abdul Wahid Mohamed al-Nur as part of ongoing consultations with Sudanese actors to push for a political resolution and restore civilian life.
According to an SLM statement, discussions focused on the worsening humanitarian situation, particularly the growing needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in areas under the movement’s control, alongside broader security and political developments.
The movement said its delegation outlined its role in protecting civilians, IDPs and humanitarian workers amid rising displacement and shortages of basic necessities.
It also presented what it described as a comprehensive initiative to end the war and tackle the underlying causes of Sudan’s long-running crisis.
The SLM invited Haavisto to visit areas under its control in Darfur to assess the humanitarian situation firsthand.
The delegation included senior figures from the movement’s leadership, humanitarian and media sectors.
The meeting follows separate talks in Nairobi between Haavisto and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who leads the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and heads the Presidential Council of the Sudan Founding Alliance Government, with discussions also focusing on efforts to end the conflict and advance peace.
