World Bank, IMF warn rising energy costs will boost food prices

The heads of the World Bank, IMF, and U.N. World Food Program warned on Wednesday of rising food insecurity globally.

They said surging oil, natural gas, and fertilizer prices would inevitably push food costs higher, hitting vulnerable populations hardest.

Low-income, import-dependent countries face the greatest strain as families struggle with rising bills and shrinking access to basic food.

The leaders pledged their institutions would closely monitor developments, using every available tool to support those affected by the crisis.

They stressed international coordination is critical to mitigate the economic and humanitarian impact of the accelerating global price shocks.

The warning reflects mounting concerns that energy and agricultural markets are straining fragile economies, with potential ripple effects worldwide.
