Sudanese migrants survive deadly Libya shipwreck

Sudanese migrants are among survivors and victims after a deadly Mediterranean shipwreck off Libya’s Tobruk coast, officials said Monday.

Four migrants were rescued from the sea more than five days after their boat capsized while heading toward Europe’s shores.

Ten people were confirmed dead in the disaster, while 31 others remain missing as search operations continue in difficult conditions.

Six bodies were recovered on Saturday after washing ashore, marking a grim phase in the ongoing recovery efforts along the coastline.

The International Organization for Migration said rescue teams are still combing the waters, hoping to find additional survivors alive.

Libya remains a major transit hub for migrants from Sudan, Egypt and beyond, fleeing conflict and poverty toward uncertain futures in Europe.

United Nations data shows more than 900,000 migrants now reside across Libya’s municipalities, underscoring the scale of the migration crisis.
