Burhan’s army drone attacks kill 11 people, damage hospital

A drone strike struck the southern Sudanese city of Rabak, killing 11 people, as the war’s violence continues to claim civilian lives.

A local hospital source confirmed the casualties on Tuesday, describing a scene of destruction as emergency teams struggled to respond quickly.

A security source said the strike was carried out by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s army, as fighting against the Rapid Support Forces has continued since April 2023.

Further north, another drone strike hit a hospital in Khartoum state, marking a rare attack in the area after months of relative calm.

Residents in Jebel Awliya said the blast damaged hospital buildings, shattering windows and spreading fear among patients and medical staff nearby.

A security source described the damage as limited, adding that a nearby gas station was also struck during the same attack.

Both warring sides have increasingly relied on drones, turning the conflict into a distant yet deadly exchange that spares fighters but endangers civilians.

The war, now in its third year, has killed tens of thousands, with some estimates suggesting the death toll may exceed 200,000 people.

What began as a power struggle has spiralled into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, displacing millions and straining fragile aid systems.
