Rapid Support Forces commander Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo said Thursday that his movement wants Sudan’s devastating war to end “as soon as possible.”
Addressing officers, Dagalo said peace would require commitments from all sides, warning that no clear end to the conflict is yet in sight.
He claimed army estimates suggest the war could continue until 2033, while saying his forces were prepared to keep fighting until 2040 if necessary.
His remarks reflected the deep uncertainty gripping Sudan, where shifting frontlines, destruction and exhaustion continue to shape daily life.
Dagalo said some RSF units have remained positioned on the outskirts of Omdurman since the conflict began, describing the military situation as moving in his forces’ favour.
He added that the next stage could bring “positive developments,” without giving details about possible political or military changes.
The RSF leader said his forces reject any return to pre-war conditions, calling instead for what he described as a “radical solution” to Sudan’s crisis.
He argued that any future agreement must tackle the root causes of the conflict to prevent further violence and restore long-term stability.
Dagalo also said education remains a key priority for the transitional administration operating in western Sudan despite the ongoing insecurity.
“Weapons and education are parallel paths,” he said, promising continued efforts to expand access to schools in areas controlled by the RSF.
He praised supporters he referred to as the “old guard youth,” describing them as determined to help shape Sudan’s future.
Dagalo also blamed the Islamists for the current crisis and urged his fighters to remain disciplined in the next phase of the conflict.
