UN says 58,000 Sudanese children separated by war crisis

Sudan’s war has created the world’s largest displacement crisis, with nearly 58,000 children separated from their parents and living in refugee-hosting countries, the UN refugee agency said Thursday.

Many children suffer psychological trauma and injuries caused by violence and dangerous journeys across borders.

UNHCR spokesperson Faith Cassina said teams are working to reunite children with relatives, while those found alone are placed with foster families.

The agency said it needs $1.6 billion to support nearly 5.9 million refugees and displaced people, but only around 10 percent of funding has been secured.

Cassina warned that shortages threaten food, shelter, healthcare, and protection services, urging safe humanitarian access and greater international support.
