Dagalo discusses Sudan developments with UN envoy

Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, President of the Presidential Council of the Government of Peace and Unity and commander of the Rapid Support Forces, held a phone call on Friday with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Sudan, Pekka Haavisto, to discuss the latest developments in the country.

The talks focused on military and security developments across Sudan, including the situation in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, as well as efforts to support regional and international initiatives aimed at restoring stability and easing the humanitarian suffering caused by the war.

Dagalo reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, saying the forces of the Sudan Founding Alliance remain committed to international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions during military operations.

He also stressed the importance of facilitating safe humanitarian corridors and allowing civilians to leave conflict areas freely and safely.

The call comes as fighting continues to spread across key parts of Sudan, with humanitarian agencies warning of worsening displacement, food insecurity and growing pressure on civilians trapped near front lines.
