Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has held a series of meetings in Cairo with Massad Boulos, senior adviser to the U.S. president for Arab and African affairs, as diplomatic efforts intensify over the war in Sudan.
According to a statement from Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, the talks focused on regional developments, the situation in Sudan and Libya, and coordination between Cairo and Washington on efforts to support de-escalation. Monday’s meeting was the third round of consultations in three days.
On Saturday, Abdelatty joined a four-way meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Boulos to discuss developments in Sudan and ways to support efforts toward a ceasefire.
The Egyptian foreign minister also held separate talks the same day with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem, with discussions covering the battlefield situation and coordination between Cairo and Port Sudan amid rising military escalation, particularly around El Obeid in North Kordofan.
The Quad mechanism, which includes Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, has been pushing for a ceasefire in Sudan. At a ministerial meeting in Washington on September 12, 2025, the group announced a roadmap aimed at urgently de-escalating the conflict.
Boulos, who has been leading U.S. mediation efforts on Sudan, said Washington believes the war cannot be settled militarily and that a political track must resume.
