Sumoud leader accuses Islamic Movement of fuelling Sudan war

Khalid Omar Yousif, a leading figure in the Sumoud coalition, has said Sudan’s Islamic Movement is the main beneficiary of the continued war, accusing it of openly backing the fighting and using the conflict to advance its own interests at the expense of the Sudanese people.

In a post on Facebook, Yousif described the movement as a “terrorist organisation” and said its affiliated brigades make no effort to hide their support for the war, rallying behind the slogan “Yes to war.”

He said this position exposes the movement as the force that ignited the conflict and continues to benefit from its continuation, while most Sudanese pay the price through death, destruction and mass displacement.

“No one has a greater interest in the continuation of this criminal war than the Islamic Movement,” Yousif said, adding that recognising this reality is the essential starting point for stopping the bloodshed and ending the crisis.

Yousif stressed that any serious effort to bring peace to Sudan must focus on confronting the real causes of the war, rather than “chasing its shadows.”
