Authorities in Omdurman have opened an investigation after a butcher was arrested on suspicion of slaughtering dogs and selling their meat to consumers as young goat meat.
The suspect was detained during a raid on a site in Sabreen Market, according to preliminary reports. Legal proceedings have been initiated while investigators work to verify the allegations and establish the full circumstances of the case.
Authorities are also examining whether the suspected practice extended beyond the arrested butcher and whether other individuals were involved.
The investigation forms part of efforts to protect public health, ensure food safety and enforce hygiene regulations in local markets.
Officials said inquiries would continue until all legal procedures were completed and the findings made public.
