Heavy rains trigger deadly floods across Sudan’s Al-Jazirah

Torrential autumn rains swept through Sudan’s Al-Jazirah State on Thursday, killing at least one person and leaving four others injured, authorities said.

The state’s Emergency Operations Center said heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding that caused widespread destruction across affected communities.

Floodwaters destroyed 22 homes and damaged 39 others, forcing about 170 families from their homes.

The flooding also disrupted healthcare services after 22 local health facilities suffered damage, further straining the state’s medical response.

Emergency teams remain on the ground, assessing the extent of the damage across 18 of the hardest-hit areas while response efforts continue.
