Armed men wearing military uniforms carried out a daylight robbery at a market in southern Khartoum, raising new concerns over security in the Sudanese city.
The attackers arrived at Market 6 in the Mayo area in four-wheel-drive vehicles, triggering panic among shoppers and traders.
Witnesses said the armed group threatened shopkeepers at gunpoint before looting six businesses and fleeing the scene.
The raid has heightened fears among residents, who say the remaining businesses in the area are increasingly vulnerable to criminal attacks.
The robbery occurred only days after local authorities introduced stricter security measures, including tighter checkpoints and restrictions on early morning civilian movement.
Officials also reimposed nighttime curfews in an effort to tackle rising crime and restore order.
Local sources say shop break-ins have become more frequent across southern Khartoum, with markets and commercial areas among the main targets.
Witnesses also reported that many of the attackers involved in these incidents wear military-style uniforms, making it difficult to distinguish them from security personnel.
