Sudanese customs authorities have raised the official exchange rate for the US dollar to 3,960.24 Sudanese pounds.
The new customs rate is up 5.79 percent from the previous valuation of 3,743.23 pounds per dollar.
The move comes as the Sudanese pound continues to weaken on the parallel market, where the US dollar has climbed above 6,100 pounds.
Economists warn that pushing the customs rate close to the 4,000-pound mark will increase import costs and add fresh inflationary pressure.
Higher customs duties are expected to raise prices for basic goods, imported products, and industrial raw materials.
The increase adds to the financial burden on Sudanese households already struggling with soaring living costs and a prolonged economic crisis.
Analysts say the higher customs rate could also affect the parallel currency market, depending on changes in supply and demand.
