The information minister in Sudan’s TASIS-led Government of Peace and Unity has announced a comprehensive plan to establish a new media system in territories administered by the parallel government.
Khalid Ahmed Danaa Brima said the programme would include launching the New Sudan News Agency, known as NASNA, creating a unified government digital platform and establishing a national radio and television authority.
Speaking in his first interview since taking office, Brima also announced plans to create a national information-verification centre tasked with countering misinformation and improving access to accurate news.
Brima said press freedom was “a right guaranteed by law” and pledged to protect journalists and ensure they could obtain official information.
He said misinformation should be challenged through transparency, credible reporting and the rapid publication of accurate information.
The TASIS minister also announced a programme to train 150 journalists in digital media and artificial intelligence.
He said the initiative was intended to build a professional media sector capable of supporting peace efforts and improving Sudan’s international image.
The announcement forms part of broader efforts by the TASIS administration to establish institutions separate from those operated by the SAF-aligned authorities in Port Sudan.
