Several prominent members of the Islamist-linked Al-Baraa Ibn Malik Brigade were killed in an air strike targeting their positions in Jabra al-Sheikh in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, according to local reports.
Among those killed was Kamal Bour, described as a senior Islamist figure and an influential member of the Al-Baraa Ibn Malik Brigade.
Sources said the strike, which they attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), also killed several members of the Special Operations Forces and other Al-Baraa Ibn Malik fighters deployed in the area.
There was no immediate independent confirmation of the number of casualties or responsibility for the attack.
Al-Baraa Ibn Malik is an Islamist-linked armed formation that has fought alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces during the country’s ongoing war. Its fighters have taken part in several major fronts alongside SAF and allied forces.
Bour was regarded as an influential figure within the brigade. He had previously been detained by military authorities before later being released and returning to activities with the Islamist-aligned fighting units.
The reported strike comes amid continued fighting in North Kordofan, where the RSF and SAF-aligned forces have been competing for control of strategic towns, supply routes and military positions.
