Sudan reported that 37 migrants died after a boat carrying more than 100 people sank off the Libyan coast, officials said.
The vessel went down during an attempted Mediterranean crossing toward Greece, part of a grim pattern of drownings along the perilous route.
A preliminary list names 21 of the dead, including women and children from Sudan’s West Darfur, North Kordofan and Al-Qadarif states.
Names circulating include members of the same families, among them the Abdel-Majeed, Bakht and Ibrahim Hussein households, underscoring the scale of loss.
Authorities cautioned that the list remains officially unconfirmed pending verification.
Sudanese officials said they were awaiting reliable details from competent authorities on the final death toll, the missing, and the circumstances of the doomed voyage.
