Sudan Liberation Movement founder Abdel Wahid Mohamed al-Nur said Saudi officials asked him to cooperate with army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan against his political opponents and the Rapid Support Forces.
Al-Nur said in an interview with the Sudanese newspaper December that he received an official invitation to visit Riyadh in June, where he met several Saudi officials.
Among those present, he said, was Prince Musab bin Mohammed bin Farhan, an adviser to the Saudi foreign minister for political affairs.
According to al-Nur, the officials urged him to work with al-Burhan as Sudan’s war continued to reshape political and military alliances across the country.
Al-Nur said he rejected the request, telling the Saudi officials that the Sudanese Armed Forces remained under the influence of the Islamist movement.
Saudi authorities and the Sudanese army have not publicly responded to al-Nur’s account. His claims could not be independently verified.
The remarks offer a rare glimpse into the regional diplomatic contacts surrounding Sudan’s war and raise questions about Riyadh’s engagement with the country’s rival political and military actors.
